Configuring Directions
Directions are the sectors your data is grouped into around the plot. Click Configure Directions (compass icon) in the table toolbar to open the settings.
The dialog has two tabs, Cardinal and Numeric, and a live preview of the current directions at the bottom.
More sectors give a finer, smoother rose but need more data per direction to stay meaningful:
Cardinal
Compass-letter labels. Choose the number of sectors:
- 4 gives N, E, S, W (90° apart)
- 8 adds NE, SE, SW, NW (45° apart)
- 16 adds NNE, ENE, and so on (22.5° apart)
Custom Letters
The four base letters are editable (up to 3 characters each), so you can localize them. For example, set North to Nord, East to Ost, South to Süd, West to West. Compound labels (NE, SSW, and the rest) are built from your letters automatically.
Click Reset to restore the defaults (N/E/S/W). Apply commits your changes.
Numeric
Degree labels instead of letters. Choose 4, 8, 16, or 36 sectors. For example, 4 directions produce 0°, 90°, 180°, 270°. Use 36 for a fine-grained 10° resolution.
Defaults
New plots start in Cardinal mode with 8 directions.
Changing Directions and Your Data
The data table updates to match the new direction set. If a change isn't what you wanted, use Undo (Cmd/Ctrl+Z).
